El Tour de New York, Part 3: Queens

Broadway was bubbling with foot traffic on Friday night. That is, Broadway, Astoria. Before going to Astoria Wine & Spirits, to do a tasting, I ate dinner at Uncle George’s Greek Tavern, but I could just as easily have gone out for Thai, Chinese or Italian food. Astoria W&S hosts wine tastings every Friday night, and has developed a loyal following in the neighborhood. Last night was a double occasion. It was opening night for artist Gabriele Perici, who hails from Palermo, lives in the neighborhood, and whose paintings had just been hung at the wine shop. While justly proud of Italy’s red wines, Gabriele was open to trying New York wine, and thoroughly enjoyed Bouké Red. The crowd was quite wine-savvy, open, curious and candid. Thank you to Yang, Carin and Kristen for hosting!
